Karin S. Khuenl-Brady

Karin S. Khuenl-Brady, MD, DEAA, is Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. Currently, she is Deputy Head of the Division for Anesthesia in Urology and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery; and Head of the connected Postoperative Intermediate Care Unit. She has been working in the field of neuromuscular blocking agents and their adherent problems for over 30 years and has published widely in this area. Professor Khuenl-Brady serves as a consultant reviewer for anesthesiology and pharmacology journals such as Current Opinion in Anesthesiology and Pharmacology. She is also a member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology, the Anaesthesia Research Society as well as several Austrian societies. She works with a large number of pediatric patients and her main clinical interests are day-care anesthesia, anesthesia in urology, gynecology, ENT and maxillofacial surgery. Her scientific work and research are mainly focused on the pharmacology and toxicology of neuromuscular blocking agents and reversal. | |

Jerrold Levy

Levy, MD, is Professor of Anesthesiology and Deputy Chairman for Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is also Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, and an Attending Physician in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Emory University Hospital. Professor Levy received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the University of Miami. After serving a postdoctoral internship in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, he completed a residency in the Department of Anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, where he was also Chief Resident. He also completed two fellowships there, the first in cardiac anesthesia with Dr. Edward Lowenstein and the second in respiratory intensive care with Drs. Henning Pontopiddan and Warren Zapol. He is a member of the Leadership Committee of the Council on Cardiovascular Surgery & Anesthesia in the American Heart Association, and is an elected member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the Shock Society, and serves as a consultant to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA; CBER). Professor Levy is currently the Section Editor for Hemostasis and Transfusion Medicine for Anesthesia Analgesia, and serves on the Editorial boards for the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, Heart Surgery Forum, and as a consultant reviewer for many other journals in the areas of hemostasis, inflammation, anaphylaxis and cardiovascular pharmacology. He is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Harvard Prize Book Award, American Cancer Society Research Fellowship, M. Jasinska Award from Massachusetts General Hospital, and the 3M New Investigator Award. His research interests include hemostasis, acute inflammation and anaphylactic reactions, cardiovascular pharmacology, and vascular physiology. He has been active in developing transfusion alternatives, and elucidating mechanisms involved in anaphylactic shock. Some of his current research efforts are the application of biotechnology in clinical medicine, understanding mechanisms of thrombin signaling, and developing novel strategies to modulate hemostasis. Rajinder K Mirakhur

Mirakhur, MD PhD FRCA FCARCSI, is Professor of Anaesthetics at Queen's University in Belfast, UK, and is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal and the Belfast City Hospital Trusts, also in Belfast. He is an elected member of the Council of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCA), and a past member of the Council of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland. He has been an examiner at the Royal College of Anaesthetists and is an examiner for the Primary FCARCSI. His main clinical interests are in anesthesia for trauma and orthopedic surgery; his research interests are in the clinical pharmacology of intravenous and inhalational anesthetics, and neuromuscular blocking and reversal agents. He has published widely on these subjects. Professor Mirakhur has a keen interest in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate education in anesthesia and is a member of the RCA's Training Committee.
